This Week, Diwali Festival is celebrated with two big events at Fed Square and Sandown where you’ll find great entertainment and attractions that celebrate the Indian festival, and each with a grand finale of fireworks.
The Melbourne Guitar Makers Festival returns with a weekend of events that are perfect for both those wanting to lend an ear and others who prefer a hands-on approach.
Carlton Italian Festa brings a day of free celebrations to Lygon Street with music, food, fun and more for the family, while further afield for foodies there’s the Maryville Australian Sparkling Wine Festival along with the Sunbury Region Wine & Food Festival.

Diwali Lights Up!
Diwali Indian Festival of Light, taking place at Federation Square, celebrates the Hindu religious festival with stalls showcasing Indian cuisine, Indian jewellery and fashion. Other attractions include Bollywood dance performances, henna painting, children’s activities and spectacular evening fireworks on the Yarra.
When: Saturday October 26 – 12pm to 9:30pm
Diwali Fair, the Aii Indian Festival taking place at Sandown Racecourse in Springvale, features a wide range of Indian cuisine, dancing performances and entertainment for children. Showcasing the rich diversity of Indian culture, the annual event includes food an variety stalls, activities, rides and a grand fireworks finale.

Melbourne Guitar Makers Festival, taking place at Abbottsford Convent, celebrates handcrafted guitars from some of the best independent luthiers. Exhibiting their finest and latest work to showcase the cutting edge of the craft, it includes performances from some of Melbourne's leading players of classical guitar.

The Spirit of Italy
Carlton Italian Festa, celebrates the spirit and culture of Italy with free entertainment at Piazza Italia and along Lygon Street. With live performances by local and Italian artists that include Anthony Callea, there’ll also be a kids corner, soccer clinics, cooking demonstrations, bocce games, vehicle displays and much more.
When: Sunday October 27 – 11am to 9pm
Camperdown Cruise Rockabilly Festival, held each year in the historic tree lined main street of Camperdown, is a retro-fest extravaganza that features great live rockabilly bands, a vintage fashion parade, market stalls with 50’s collectables, dance competitions, art exhibitions and the Miss Camperdown Cruise Pinup Comp.
When: Thursday to Sunday, October 24 to 27
Tallangatta Fifties Festival, taking place on the shores of Lake Hume in North East Victoria, celebrates the rock and roll era with classic cars and motorcycles on display, dancing and entertainment with guests that include The Delltones, along with a 50s fashion parade and market, busking and much more.

The Surrey Hills are Alive
Surrey Hills Music Festival is an exciting event that offers a huge line-up of performers at venues that include Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre. With a program that showcases an array of musical genres including folk, jazz, blues, rock, country and classical, there’s also food stalls, buskers, open mic sessions and more.
When: Saturday October 26 – 12pm to 11pm
Hola Mexico Film Festival, with screenings held at ACMI Cinema, presents the best films that have emerged from Mexico with a program of 13 Australian premieres, box office hits, documentaries and comedies, action films, dramas and more along with the returning highlight of the Opening Night Fiesta.

For Queen’s College & Country
Emerging Artists at Queen's College is a variety show that features the debut of the new Queen's College Chorus conducted by Dr Kathleen McGuire. Free to attend, the program also features the Gin & Tonics a cappella ensemble and selections from the musical Sweeney Todd performed by the Music And Drama Society.

Dave Hole, the legendary Australian slide guitarist, will be performing at Richmond’s Corner Hotel as part of his first national tour in eight years. Performing in acoustic mode, he’ll be joined by guest Canadian performer, Charlie A'Court with his electric and acoustic mix of fabulous guitar riffs and soaring melodies.

Maryville Australian Sparkling Wine Festival, now in its 4th year, is the only Australian show dedicated to sparkling wine. Drawing sparkling wine producers from all over the country, the event has become one of the most prestigious wine competitions on the industry calendar with its highlight of the Gala Awards Dinner.
When: Tuesday to Friday, October 22 to 25
Sunbury Region Wine & Food Festival is a chance to taste the best of Sunbury’s wineries with delicious food and wine on offer along with children’s entertainment and music from special guest James Blundell. Held at Rupertswood Mansion, featured wineries include Longview Creek Estate, Galli Estate, Rose Creek Estate and more.
When: Sunday October 27 – 11am to 5pm
Courses for Horses
Cox Plate Carnival features live entertainment, exceptional dining and fashion parades in the lead up to “The Race Where Legends Are Made” at Moonee Valley. Introduced in 1922 in honour of the founder of Moonee Valley, William Samuel Cox, the Cox Plate’s total prize money makes it the 2nd richest race behind the Melbourne Cup.
When: Tuesday to Saturday, October 22 to 26
Kilmore Pacing Cup, the feature harness event at Kilmore Racing Club, offers a great day of racing action on the track amidst the quality food and atmosphere. Known as the Melbourne Cup of Harness Racing, the day features Fashions on the Field, live performances, entertainment for kids and a total of 10 races on the day.
