Melbourne Food and Wine Festival 2011

The Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is a showcase of Australian food and wine that attracts some of the world’s biggest celebrities in the world of cookery and wine.

The delicious 19th Melbourne Food and Wine Festival will see every corner of the city hosting a lip-smacking lunch, a food-lover’s fiesta or a mouth-watering master class. Enjoy canapés and cocktails on a city rooftop or something lazy and leisurely in the city laneways.

The Festival's charter is to promote the quality produce, talent and lifestyle of Melbourne and the State of Victoria and to reinforce Melbourne as the pre-eminent culinary city of Australia.

Chef MasterClass

Queen of the British kitchen Nigella Lawson and Spain’s three Michelin-star chef Elena Arzak are the first stars to be announced as part of the Festival’s line-up which celebrates ‘Women of the Kitchen’, one of three central themes featured in the 2011 Chef MasterClass program.

"We’re thrilled to be welcoming Nigella Lawson and Elena Arzak to Melbourne Food and Wine Festival next March," said Festival Chief Executive Officer, Natalie O'Brien. "While our 19th Festival is seven months away, we wanted to share the news with excited foodies to mark their diaries for 4 October, when Langham Melbourne MasterClass goes on sale."

‘Women of the Kitchen’ will pay tribute to the female chefs who have risen to the top of their professions, but also female cooks, winemakers, sommeliers, restaurateurs, authors and mothers who have shaped the food we eat and the wine we drink today.

NIGELLA

Best known for her intimate, relaxed style of cooking, influential food writer and television personality Nigella Lawson (How to Be a Domestic Goddess, Nigella Bites) will visit Australia to exchange ideas, cultures, techniques and recipes alongside Elena Arzak (Arzak, San Sebastian) and a broader line-up of international and homegrown talent.

ELENA

Elena is co-chef with father Juan Mari Arzak and the fourth generation at their eponymous restaurant, which boasts three Michelin stars, in Spain’s gastronomic capital of San Sebastian.
